| About GMC Mine Scheduler | ||||
| The GMC Scheduler project was undertaken because there appeared
to be a growing need for a better quality of mine planning software in
the mining industry. The increasing size, complexity, and lower grades
of modern mining operations place huge demands on the mine planners and
the tools they use to do their work. |
||||
| People who work in this area realize there is great potential for better quality software to reduce the cost of mine planning, and deliver better mine plans in the time frame available. | ||||

Mining software should be assessed on the following criteria: | |||
| ■ | Ease of setting up | ■ | Focus on the core task | |
| ■ | Ease of learning | ■ | Flexibility | |
| ■ | Ease of use | ■ | Extensibility | |
| ■ | Speed of use | ■ | Power | |
| ■ | Reliability | ■ | Price | |
| The GMC Mine Scheduler has addressed all of these issues. Those who take the time to evaluate it will find that it is already the best software available for scheduling open pit mines. |

With an Associateship in Mining Engineering from the Western Australian School Of Mines in 1972, he has worked at many mine sites across Australia, both open cut and underground. His work with computers dates back to 1978 when he obtained a Graduate Diploma in Computing Studies from the Canberra College of Advanced Education. |

| Gordon’s background includes: | ||||
| Underground | ||||
| Peko, Warrego,Gecko, Orlando (Tennant Creek); Mt Charlotte, Fimiston Mines (Kalgoorlie); Bellview (Leinster); Mt Dimer, Yilgarn Star (Southern Cross); and many others. | ||||

an ore reserve/block modeling system for Paraburdoo in the period 1976 – 1979.
This was the first computerized ore reserve system at Hamersley Iron
that worked. Then, in the years 1982 to 1985 Gordon developed an integrated mine planning/surveying/grade control/ore reserve system for Queensland Nickel at Greenvale. That software was extremely user friendly, powerful, and reliable and resulted in major benefits to the company. Since 1997 he has worked as a consulting mining engineer as Principal of Garnsey Mining Consultants Pty Ltd, with an increasing proportion of his time in recent years being dedicated to the development of the GMC Mine Scheduler software. This is now a major application with over 50,000 lines of code. Gordon is a Member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and hold First Class Mine Managers Certificates (Metalliferous) in Queensland and Western Australia. |
